Hot Tub Life Articles

"Hot Tub" is Preferred Term

(From Hot Tub Life Newsletter 1998)

A recent consumer survey, reported in Pool & Spa News Magazine, has discovered that the vast majority of people refer to a "spa" as a "hot tub". For over 20 years, the pool & spa industry has bucked this perception by trying to convey to consumers that a "spa" is made of acrylic and a "hot tub" is made out of wood (like a barrel).

However this survey showed that almost all people, when shown a photo of a portable "spa" said that they were looking at a "hot tub". Most people equate "spas" with health spas. This new information will finally be used nationally by spa manufacturers and marketers throughout the 1998 season - with a new spotlight on "officially" re-naming "spas" to "hot tubs". Wonder what Webster’s Dictionary will do with this one ?
