The Long Island Iced Tea has always been the basis of
many more elaborate mixed-drinks. It dates to the 1970's, named
after the continental USA's largest island, Long Island, in New
York. Although it doesn't contain tea, it's taste is similar.
The drink sits in the top 5 of most popular cocktails and is
regularly mentioned or seen served in television and films.
PoolAndSpa.com was founded on Long Island, and many of our
employees were around for the invention of the "original" Long
Island Iced Tea in the 1970's - so we are considered somewhat
"experts" in the field of the Long Island Iced Tea history!
How To Make A Long Island Iced Tea:
The basic recipe for a Long Island Iced Tea is this:
1 shot vodka
1 shot tequila
1 shot rum
1 shot gin
1 shot triple sec
1 shot sweet and sour mix
1 splash Coca-Cola®
Mix ingredients together over ice in a glass. Pour into a shaker
and give one brisk shake. Pour back into the glass and garnish
with lemon.
How To Make A Las Vegas Iced Tea:
There has always been quite some controversy as to exactly
what a Las Vegas Iced Tea should be made from, and the
answers do vary from bartender to bartender, and from casino to
casino, here in Las Vegas. Since PoolAndSpa.com is located in
Las Vegas, we have polled many different bartenders and
taste-tested many different variations, looking for the
definitive Las Vegas Iced Tea recipe.
This variation of the Long Island Iced Tea does not taste
exactly like real Iced Tea though. It tastes a little more
citrus-ey. However it does the same "job" as far as mixing a
lot of different liquors together, and ending up with a very
strong, yet very tasty drink!
Here is the recipe that we have come up with as a great tasting
variation of the Long Island Iced Tea, we call it the Las
Vegas Iced Tea (pictured above) and it is perfect for
Hot Tub parties!
The recipe for a Las Vegas Iced Tea is this:
1 shot vodka
1 shot tequila
1 shot rum
1 shot gin
1 shot triple sec
1 shot sweet and sour mix
1 shot orange juice
1 shot cranberry juice
Mix ingredients together over crushed ice in a glass.
Do not add Coca-Cola®. Pour into a shaker and shake briskly.
Pour back into the glass and garnish as you like. Serve
with a straw (preferred color is orange). You should end up with
an orange tinted drink, which tastes great and - believe it or
not - does not taste like it has a lot of alcohol in it at all.
But be careful. It does! So enjoy only one or two,
especially if at a hot tub party, because it carries quite a
kick. Remember, it is not recommended to drink alcohol while
actually sitting in a hot tub. But afterwards, enjoy with
it with friends & family during the Hot Tubbing
Season ;o)
